DISCUSSION:

The energy sector is the strategically essential basis for safe and sustainable economic development. On March 15, 2024, Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, approved the strategy for digital transformation of the fuel and energy sector by 2030. Some of the purposes of this program are, in particular, reaching a high level of digital maturity, the energy sector’s geared up switching to the new managing and technological levels, and introduction of AI-based technologies. Everything for the sake of technological independence in the fuel and energy sector. According to the data provided by the analytical service of RUSSOFT, software sales in the energy sector demonstrated substantial increment in 2023 through 2024.

However, Russian energy companies are rather conservative and tend to increase their digitalization levels successively along with solving of the technological independence tasks.

At the same time, the industry participants are concerned if the Russian software will be compatible with the equipment used at the enterprises, as in case of incompatibility such equipment can fail. Some of the hardware might turn out to be out-of-sync with the OSs from the Russian software register. Moreover, it is necessary to educate and reskill employees to make sure they can use new software and hardware solutions.

Another important objective is data safety of the objects within the critical information system, inasmuch as the cyberattack topography keeps expanding.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

  • What are the challenges and problems encountered by energy companies on their way towards import substitution and introduction of advanced technologies?
  • What are the technological solutions Russian software developers can offer?
  • Are the competences and services offered mature enough?
  • What Russian technologies are being successfully introduced in the energy sector?
  •
